14 April is Sommerdag on the Nordic Primstav

Ah summer! There is something beautiful, simple and endless about Scandinavian summers. We forget about the long nights of winter and just see the summer days stretching ahead of us. Days by the lake, fields of wildflowers, birdsong and the cool of the forest floor. It's beautiful and timeless. 14 April marks the day when the Nordic primstav or perpetual calender stick would have been turned from the winter side to the summer side marking 6 months of summer months. Although we don't use the primstav so much anymore it's legacy lives on and people still like to remember the days.

Normally in April in Norway the weather is less than predictable. It can be a bit cold and we often have snow. This year has been different though. We've already had warm temperatures6 and the bulbs are flowing, the trees have leaves and it feels like the start of summer.
