ross country skiing or Nordic skiing (skiløyper as it is called in Norwegian) is one of those sports that Norway especially is famous for. It seems that the Nordic countries dominate the international skiing competitions and always walk away with medals. There is a saying in Norway that Norwegians are born with skis on their feet and if you take a trip anywhere in Norway in the winter you could be forgiven for thinking that statement is true, because everywhere you look there are people skiing. This is most often seen at the weekends when people have free time to get outside. But's it's also down to the fact that cross country is available to almost everyone and it's a free activity that gets us outside.
So I thought as we are ending the skiing season in the Nordics it might be fun to share a few facts about cross country skiing in Norway:
