The Nordic countries have really long coastlines and so it should be no surprise that water plays an important role in life here. The coastline of Norway alone is 83281km long. That is longer than twice the earth's circumference. It's also the longest coastline in Europe and has more little islands that you could visit in several lifetimes. The coast in Denmark is gentle with soft sandy beaches and rolling hills that meet the sea, but as we move to the most northerly point of the Nordics the coastline becomes rugged, mountainous and forbidding looking.
